Learn to sail keelboats on this weekend introduction to sailing. This weekend is ideal for those who want to start sailing but feel small dinghies might not be right for them. The J80s offer a different sailing challenge but one that does not necessarily require the same level of fitness and mobility than for those starting out in smaller dinghies. Over the weekend we aim to cover the following;
RYA Start Sailing (Level 1) – Keelboats: This course introduces you to the fundamentals of sailing keelboats including sail controls, steering, sailing up, down and across the wind, turning the boat and man overboard recovery. The course is run on our J80 keelboats which are kept moored off the front of the Centre and are accessed by a short powerboat trip.
Key learning points: Rigging, sailing in all directions, importance of good communication, man overboard recovery, safety information and basic sailing theory.
Our friendly instructors will be with you every step of the way, offering clear instruction, guidance and encouragement to make this an unforgettable weekend.
The Next Steps: This weekend is a perfect introduction to keelboat sailing. To progress your sailing further we recommend you joining your local sailing club to help consolidate what you have learnt. We do not run any improver courses based solely on keelboats however you may want to consider an introduction to yachting on our Start Yachting weekend or five day RYA Competent Crew course.
