With limited time, this weekend will concentrate predominantly on providing a basic introduction to sea kayaking. After an introductory session in the pool to familiarise yourselves with the boats, you will head off to our kayak store to select your kayak for the weekend and set it up so it fits you comfortably.  Time on the water will be spent introducing you to basic paddling strokes and safety and rescue skills. By the end of the weekend you should be comfortable paddling forwards and have the basic skills and understanding to start planning a short journey in calm conditions.

If you have any questions relating to your suitability for this course or a technical enquiry, please email Huw Jones huw.jones@sport.wales. Huw will endeavour to reply to your email as quickly as possible.

The Next Steps: This provides a great introduction to basic sea paddling and boat handling skills and undertaking short journeys in calm conditions in company, is a great way to consolidate what you have learnt on this weekend. As you build your confidence you may wish to consider our Discover Sea Kayaking Week which allows much more time on the water to build up your skills and confidence and offers more in-depth trip planning advice and scenario planning.
