We are sad to report that Bob Bond, former Principal of Plas Menai, has passed away after a short illness.

Before coming to Plas Menai, Bob was the Training Manager of the RYA and the architect of the national dinghy sailing scheme. Bob wrote a number of books including the ‘Handbook of Sailing’ and the ‘RYA Sailing Manual’ amongst others.

Bob came to Plas Menai in 1983, and had a large part to play in the Centre’s early development, at that time Bob was married to Sue, and children Sam and Chris were children of Plas Menai. In 1993 Bob retired and moved to the North East where he worked for many years at Castlegate Quay Watersports Centre.

Bob never lost touch with Plas Menai and was a frequent visitor and over recent years he worked alongside Phil Twinning another coach from the northeast with a very long association with Plas Menai running a wide range of sailing courses around the UK and beyond. Up until recently at the tender age of 72 he was still teaching people how to sail.

We have very fond memories of Bob and we will miss his great sense of humour and positive approach to life.
