For those of you with plenty of life experience, who are not quite ready to hang up your boots just yet, and are still on the lookout for something new to try, then consider our senior sea paddling weekend. This will be a gentle introduction, but given the active nature of sea kayaking, you should be reasonably agile and physically fit enough to undertake a weekend of paddling.
A more leisurely-paced course than some of our other weekends, initially we’ll introduce you to the boats and how to set them up to fit you comfortably, before heading out onto the water to cover the basic paddling strokes. Depending upon the weather conditions this may be off the front of the Centre on the Menai Strait or we will drive to another location. The second day is generally spent away from the Centre and will involve a short journey on some sheltered coastal waters. The weekend will also cover basic navigation and passage planning, involving the reading of charts and tide tables.
This course is specifically aimed at those aged 55years+, who have never done any paddling before. If you are a confident and competent paddler, who happens to be 55yrs+ then you can book onto any of our other courses relevant to your standard.
If you have any questions relating to your suitability for this course or a technical enquiry, please email Huw Jones firstname.lastname@example.org. Huw will endeavour to reply to your email as quickly as possible.
The Next Steps: If you enjoyed this course, and feel fit enough to embark on a bit more of a challenge then our Senior Sea Kayak Improver weekend will build upon the skills covered on this weekend and introduce new skills and more challenging conditions.
