12 Week Trainee Instructor Programme
12 Week Trainee Instructor Programme
The 2025 12 week Outdoor Instructor Training course start date is 15th September 2025.
We will welcome you to the centre to begin 12 weeks of intensive, professional outdoor instructor training programme including the key internationally recognised qualifications employers within the watersports sector are looking for, opening global work opportunities.
We will welcome you to the centre to begin 12 weeks of intensive, professional outdoor instructor training programme including the key internationally recognised qualifications employers within the watersports sector are looking for, opening global work opportunities.
This training programme does not require candidates to hold any pre-qualifications, this is ideal for a school or college leaver or if you fancy a complete career change.
During your time at the centre you will develop your own personal outdoor skills, in readiness for undertaking your instructor qualifications, as well as developing your teaching and group management skills which are necessary in becoming an effective instructor.
The programme includes ALL of the industry sought after qualifications along with all necessary personal protective clothing, equipment and tuition.
During the 12 week programme you will obtain the following qualifications:
Dinghy Sailing
- RYA Start Sailing (Level 1)
- RYA Basic Skills (Level 2)
- RYA Better Sailing (Level 3)
- RYA Seamanship Skills
- RYA Spinnaker Sailing
- RYA Dinghy Instructor
Windsurfing
-RYA Start Windsurfing
-RYA Intermediate Windsurfing (Non-planing)
-RYA Start Windsurfing Instructor
Paddlesports

Crusing Programme - 3 weeks - We have option to extend to a 15 week outdoor instructor training programme which starts on 25th August 2025.
In addition to the 12 week programme the THREE extra weeks will include the following qualifications:
- RYA Competent Crew
- RYA Day Skipper Theory
- RYA Day Skipper Practical
A final two weeks from 8th December may be addded to complete the Intermediate Powerboat Course, Safety Boat and Powerboat Instructor - Subject to experience.
Facilities
Accommodation to all candidates is allocated within our on site shared houses with easy access to all the centres facilities, kit storage and car parking.
Full board is included in your course fee with nutritious and healthy meals served.
Free Internet access and resource material.
Kit and equipment; We have one of the largest ranges of top quality outdoor equipment available for use anywhere in the UK, and availability to a range of high quality kit (Please note kit does not include shoes)

Plas Menai is a large residential, purpose built outdoor centre, set in four acres of grounds on the edge of the Menai Strait, our waterfront location is also a stone throw away from the renowned Snowdonia National Park, meaning we can offer students an unrivalled diversity of training locations and conditions, equipping students not only with qualifications but hands on experience of a range of challenging environments.

The full board 12 week residential outdoor instructor training programme course fee is £8944.80.
The full board on our yacht for the additional 3 weeks to become a 15 week programme is an additional £3000
The Powerboating option add on is £2496
Please note that all of the above prices are quoted INCLUDING VAT at standard rate.
We have options for course only / non residential for the 12 week course, otherwise full board is applied as standard.

There is also further career development opportunities with Plas Menai’s Instructor Development Programme after successfully completing the Instructor Training programme, where you can gain paid work experience as an outdoor instructor on a placement for up to 15 months.
