This course is designed for sailors aged between 8 and 16 who have already completed Stage 1 or have some prior sailing experience. The RYA Improver Sailing Stage 2 course aims to build confidence and help sailors progress to a competent standard in moderate wind conditions.
During the two days we aim to cover the following;
The focus of this two-day course is to build on the skills developed during Stage 1, with more emphasis on improving boat control and sailing techniques. Tuition takes place in single-handed boats, under the supervision of fully qualified instructors. We aim to maximize on-water time, with efficient delivery of theory to support practical learning.
Key learning points:
Tacking: Learn how to perform a tack effectively and smoothly.
Boat Speed Control: Understand how to manage and adjust boat speed for better sailing performance.
Ropework: Build on basic rope handling skills for better control of the boat.
Collision Avoidance: Learn key strategies for avoiding collisions and safely navigating around other vessels.
Sailing in Moderate Winds: Gain the skills and confidence to sail in moderate wind conditions.
