Joining Instructions

This practical introduction to powerboating will provide you with the basic skills necessary to operate a powerboat safely and confidently in coastal waters.

THIS COURSE CAN ALSO BE BOOKED AS A FAMILY OF 2 ADULTS AND ONE CHILD, OR 1 ADULT AND 2 CHILDREN OVER THE AGE OF 12. THIS IS OUR FAMILY POWERBOAT LEVEL 2 AND THE PRICE IS LESS BASED ON THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 16 ON THE COURSE.

Over the two days we aim to cover the following;

 

You will begin by developing your low speed close quarter boat handling skills before being introduced to driving at planing speed. You will also cover basic engine maintenance, chart work, collision regulations, tides and weather

 

ICC - Completion of this course will allow you to apply for a coastal ICC for Power up to 10m. For more information about how to apply for an ICC please visit the RYA website

 

 

Key learning points:

Launching and recovery, boat handling, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard


Our friendly instructors will be with you every step of the way, offering clear instruction, guidance and encouragement
 

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU BRING A PASSPORT PHOTO ALONG WITH YOU WHEN YOU ATTEND THIS COURSE SO THAT YOU CAN BE ISSUED WITH YOUR CERTIFICATE ON COMPLETION.

Plas Menai will provide all necessary personal protective clothing including waterproofs, buoyancy aids and helmets.

Please bring with you;

• Suitable warm clothing to wear (under our free to use waterproofs)
• Hat, gloves, sun screen
• Wellies / shoes - that may get wet
• 50p for locker

If you are keen to develop your powerboat driving skills further, the follow on course is RYA Intermediate Powerboat. It is recommended that you have theoretical knowledge up to Day Skipper level prior to undertaking the Intermediate course.
